Resolute Desk used by the President of the United States
The Resolute desk was built from the timbers of the HMS Resolute, a British vessel from the mid-19th century, and presented to the United States by Queen Victoria in 1880. Almost every president since then has used the desk, mostly in the Oval Office.
This picture is of a replica seen in the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. The decor matches how the Oval Office looked during the final years of Reagan's Presidency.
Oval Office Decor
The redecoration of the Oval Office is usually coordinated by the First Lady's office in the East Wing, working with an interior designer and the White House Curator. Art may be selected from the White House collection, or may be borrowed for the length of an administration.
